Irish hockey today

After a 107 year wait Ireland finally qualified for the 2016 Olympics in Rio. They will be the first Irish hockey team to compete in the Olympics level since 1908. They will also be the first team of any sport to compete at an Olympic level since 1948. In August they made history by winning a bronze medal at the eurohockey championships, which gave them a firm spot amongst the best European and world hockey. Ireland will join many other countries who qualified for the Olympics. Such as Brazil, India, Germany, Canada, Spain, Belgium and great Britain. Ireland will be playing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio from the 5th of August to the 21st.


Although Ireland may not have qualified for the Olympics hockey wise is a few years we have had other side achievements. In 1978 and 1990 we came 12th place in the world cup. In the eurohockey nations championship in 2007 we came 7th place, In 2011 we came 5th place, In 2013 we came 6th place and in 2015 we got a bronze by coming third place. In the eurohockey nations trophy we came first in 2005 and 2009.
